Personal Wikipedia Monitoring: Alerts in 60 Seconds

Personal · $99 per year

Know the moment your Wikipedia page changes

One page, watched continuously. When someone edits it you get an email within 60 seconds with the change itself, not a link asking you to go and find it.

The page about you is the one everything else reads

When someone searches your name, Google builds the panel on the right from your article. When someone asks an assistant who you are, the answer is drawn from the same place. It is the one source every engine has agreed to treat as reliable.

And it can be edited by anyone, at any hour, with no credential and no notice. A sentence added at three in the morning is simply true, everywhere that quotes Wikipedia, until somebody reads it.

What Wikipedia's own Watchlist does, and where it stops

The Watchlist is free and it is the right starting point. It has four limits worth knowing before you rely on it.

  1. It emails you once

MediaWiki's manual states that after one notification you have to visit the page while logged in to be notified again. Miss that and the alerts stop silently.

  2. It cannot be scoped to one page

Wikipedia's own help documentation says email notifications cannot be limited by page. Watch anything else and it lands in the same inbox.

  3. It does not show the change

You get a notice and a link. Working out what actually happened is your job, in the page history.

  4. It needs an account

A logged-in account, and settings across two separate preference tabs.

A registered editor added a company infobox naming TC Productions as a film production company founded in 2008, with Tom Cruise as founder and owner, then replaced the empty successor field with a predecessor crediting Cruise/Wagner Productions.

Questions

I already have a Wikipedia account. Is the Watchlist not enough?

It works once. MediaWiki documents that after the first notification email you have to visit the page while logged in before you will be told about anything else, and the email never contains the change. If you are checking manually anyway, the Watchlist is doing very little for you.

What if my page is edited constantly?

You still get every edit, and each alert says what was done. Bot edits and citation cleanups look different from a rewritten paragraph, and the summary tells you which one you are looking at before you decide whether to open it.

Can I watch a page about someone else?

Yes. Nothing about the product requires the page to be about you. Personal covers one page, whoever it is about.

Will you fix a bad edit for me?

No, we detect changes. Editing an article you have a stake in breaks Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest rules. Knowing quickly, with the change in front of you, is what lets you decide how to respond.
